Midnight Juggernauts

The Midnight Juggernauts have exploded onto the international stage, playing mysterious dance music that sounds like a mix of French electro, rock and Italian horror movie soundtracks from the 70s.

They commissioned Small Studio to produce the artwork for their debut album Dystopia with the request that it be made to look like a classic ‘prog rock’ album cover. The band members had already put a lot of thought into the concepts behind the album, choosing the font for the logotype and supplying the initial collage of the cover art.

To develop the artwork further Small Studio added a second aurora to the collage, worked extensively with the colours to give them more intensity, and overlaid a colour halftone print effect (to the point of subtly making the album cover type look like it was printed slightly out of register). Hand-written lyrics from the band became the liner notes. The front cover image was accepted by the client, and with a strong visual aesthetic defined we created new illustrations to be used throughout the packaging.

Small Studio followed the look through the entire Midnight Juggernaut’s album and tour campaign, transferring the design to press ads, banner ads, promo sheets, posters and cover images for three iTunes releases.
